CD Reviews

This is the newest CD from the OC hardcore dudes of Bleeding Through and is called The Truth. Plain and simple, when you listen to these guys it will just kick your ass. It is so heavy, fast, and hard. They have a couple other CD's out right now also including their first Trustkill release This Is Love This Is Murderous. Also they just recently released an amazing DVD titled Wolves Among Sheep which takes you deeeeep into the world of Bleeding Through with hours of material. This is the first CD that Bleeding Through didn't have to record in just a few weeks so they had months to experiment and get the sound they wanted and it really shows on The Truth. All that hard in your face songs are still there, but suprisingly they even show you the more mellow side of Bleeding Through. If you have never seen these guys live you are definitely missing out but you can see them at the Norva on March 15 when they come to town with Everytime I Die and Between The Buried and Me. Go get this CD and see them in March!

Now this CD couldn't be farther away from the Bleeding Through CD haha. This is the first CD put out by Zack Hexum called The Story So Far. Now his name might sound a little bit familiar and the reason it might is because he is the younger brother of Nick Hexum who is the lead singer of 311. So you know how much of a 311 fan I am so I had to snatch this one up a few months back and give it a listen and I was not disappointed at all, actually, I was a little suprised about how much I liked it! I didn't know what to expect really but what I found was a polar opposite of 311. There were no super fast or reggae sounding songs but it's more of a laid back chilled out album filled with a lot of pop rock and jazz type songs that are very straightforward without to many overdubs over dubs or excessive over producing. Now, I'm not a very big John Mayer fan but this album is very John Mayer sounding. All in all it's a very good CD worth picking up and remember his name because he's going to be big one of these days for sure.

Plain and simple, this CD is flat out amazing. The band is Between the Buried and Me and the CD is titled Alaska. This CD is so picture perfect on every single song and after giving it many many many listens I still can't find a bad song or a song that I like the most because they are all so good. There are very heavy and crushing songs as well as slower songs with guitar solos that would make Pink Floyd proud. These guys have only gotten better each CD they have put out and this one is by far the best one they have put out. Like I mentioned in the Bleeding Through review, Between The Buried And Me will be at the Norva on March 15 so check it out.

This is a little band called Chiodos and they are out of Minnesota and they are flat out amazing! I picked this CD up about two months ago and they are finally starting to pick up a little steam. It was just reviewd in the newest AP Magazine and was given 5 out of 5 stars. This is their first studio LP and it is titled Alls Well that Ends Well and it's like walking through some kind of harcore carnival. There is such a mix of sounds on this CD from metalcore guitar riffs, to thrashing guitar solos, to even a beatbox breakdown on the catchy song "The Words 'Best Friend' Become Redefined." Strange mix of music but I assure you once you listen to this CD you will want to put it on repeat and just listen to it all day long! They have been touring non stop and will be making a stop at Club Excess in November with the Calico System which should be a killer show! Make sure you get this CD for your collection!

This is Coheeds third album and by far and away the most complex, intense, and best one they have made so far. Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness is a work of pure rock genuis. It is full of pulsating stadium rock anthems as well as the dark and erie tracks that you would expect from a band that is putting out a series of graphic novels to go along with the storys being told in the music they make. In the 72 minutes of this CD, you get straight up hard rock, mellow accoustic tracks, folk songs, pop rock sing alongs, and even a little random bluegrass/folk music. This has everything for the music fane and is one you need to get.

Let me just say this about ths band The Fall Of Troy, never did I think three guys could make so much noise! This is the first album they put out on Equal Vision called Doppelganger and their second CD overall. These guys started really young and still are, but they totally sound like they know what they are doing. With perhaps the most bizzare song titles I have ever heard...i.e. "Whacko Jacko Stole the Elephant Mans Bones" and "We Better Learn how to Hotwire a Uterus", the bizzre titles go well with the crazy lyrics and and ryhtms these guys play. It's something that I havn't really heard in a while and it will blow you away. Now here is a disclaimer, DON'T get this CD if you are not into hard ass kicking rock and crazy screaming because this will not suit you very well. But for the rest of ya, enjoy!

www.smartpunk.com - These guys are flat out amazing, simple as that. If your into the "space rock" stuff this CD will captavize you, calling all Mars Volta fans. The front man screaming into the mic is none other than former Saosin frontman and now Circa Survive frontman Anthony Green. All the members of this band wear different animal masks and go by the name of the animal they are. Strange I know but once you listen to this CD you will quickly realize this is no ordinary band. Keep an ear open for big things from these guys!

www.thechariot.com - These guys were in town not to long ago with Underoath at the Norva and just rocked the crowd. With a very crowd friendly and crazy front man, there live performance will leave you begging for more. With the lead singer (former Norma Jean frontman Josh Scogin) crawling under drumsets and climbing into balconys, you will leave this show nowing what a real rock show should be like. The production work on the CD might not be the best but if you look past that you will see how good they are going to be and really are. They are pretty hardcore but if your into the hard stuff than this CD is for you.

www.311.com - This is the 11the album put out by 311. Just let that soak in for a second...11 CD'S! After being together for well over 10 years these guys are like a fine wine, they just keep getting better with age. They are a personal favorite of mine and there amazing albums are only out done by there faaaaantastic live show. The new CD goes back to there roots and goes away from samples and funky effects a little bit and gets down to great guitar work and heart pounding drums from the early albums. You can hear the new single "Don't tread on me" our station many times a day and you can get the new album Don't Tread On Me August 16th and then see them live Thursday Aug. 21 at the VWVBA with Papa Roach and Unwritten Law. So get your tickets, get the new album, and have yourself a nice relaxing beach day!

www.theonlybandever.com - This CD was first out way back in 2K2 but I like to put an older CD up that I think is awesome that you might not know and my pick this time is Alexisonfire and their self titled album. The only way you are going to like this album is if you are really into reeeeal hard ass kicking screaming. This guy has such an amzing voice and where as most people sing most of the time and then can break out a scream, these guys scream and scream and then sing every once and a while. The guitar work on this CD is absolutely amazing as well. And just as a disclaimer, you might not want to listen to this CD when your already mad or driving in a car, just so ya know!

www.funeralforafriend.com - This is the newest release from the biggest band over in jolly old England! I had their first CD up and now the new one titled Hours has been out for a few weeks and it is just as good as the other two cd's they have out! Granted it is alot softer than the first couple, it's still a great CD! Look out for these guys coming on the Maurice Stage at this years Vans Warped Tour!

www.gatsbysamericandream.com - This is the first CD from Gatsbys American Dream I have picked up and boy was I missing out! Declared as one of AP Magazines 100 bands you need to know for 2005, they were not kidding! The whole CD is themed around the night Mount Vesuvius erupted at Pompeii. So if history is not your strongest subject but you have a test coming up on Pompeii, go get this CD! Not to mention it's a piece of musical genius!

Circa Survive "Juturna" - www.circasurvive.com - This is a great CD and is a little bit down tempo but definitley a sweet compact disc for a long road trip or if you just like to sing along.

Funeral For A Friend "Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation" - www.funeralforafriend.com - This CD totally rules me! Its great is you want the straight up tough music and the softer stuff. A great pick for everyone!

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Self Titled - www.redjumpsuit.com- These dudes are an unbelievable young band from Jacksonville and totally rule! Once again, tons of hard stuff to mix in with softer tracks. So Check them out!
